Coleen Brogan, CNA
Coleen is a certified nurse-midwife with a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in healthcare. She began her nursing journey in 1978 and became a nurse practitioner in 1999, building a practice rooted in compassion, expertise, and dedication to patient-centered care. Currently, she serves part-time at La Red Health Center Inc, a federally qualified health center that provides essential services to uninsured and underinsured populations, many of whom have gone years without consistent access to care.
Throughout her career, Coleen has held diverse roles, including years practicing obstetrics and managing an STD clinic. Today, she focuses exclusively on gynecology, caring for patients across the lifespan—from adolescents to elderly women. She has developed particular expertise in contraceptive care, especially in IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removal, which she considers one of the most rewarding aspects of her work. Her extensive experience allows her to approach each patient with both clinical precision and a deep understanding of women’s health needs at every stage of life.
What truly distinguishes Coleen is her commitment to treating the whole patient. She takes a comprehensive approach to care, often addressing multiple health concerns in a single visit and utilizing integrated medical, dental, and mental health records to ensure nothing is overlooked. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I really enjoy working with the people that I work with. Some people are nice, some people are difficult, but they're all there for your help, and if you enjoy working with them and talking to them besides work things, it really makes everybody's life a lot better. I'm looking forward to going back and seeing everybody, and just the patients, you know. Everyone's a puzzle and a mystery, and it's good to help unravel that so that everything's nice and clear and fits into place, and people are walking around healthy. One of the most awesome things I ever saw was having patients that we talked a lot about exercise with, people that would never think of exercise, it wasn't in their culture, it wasn't on their mind. And then, you know, 6 months later, I see them out with shorts and the earphones, and they're jogging. That impact on people's lives is what I love.
