Clare Sangster-Scott, DNP, APN-C, CWS

Dr. Clare Sangster-Scott, DNP, APN-C, CWS, is a highly experienced Advanced Practice Nurse and wound care leader serving as Director of Wound Care Services at Associates in Vascular Care. With a nursing career that began in 1983, she initially specialized in pediatrics and pediatric critical care as a Registered Nurse before advancing her education and becoming a Nurse Practitioner in 2007, trained in adult medicine. Over time, she discovered her true professional calling in wound care and advanced wound management—a specialty to which she has dedicated the past 18 years of her career. Dr. Sangster-Scott is a Diplomate of the American Board of Wound Management, earning her Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) credential by examination in 2009 and successfully recertifying by examination in 2019. Her clinical expertise encompasses advanced and chronic wound management, pressure injury prevention, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing pressure injury prevalence in the elderly population. She has worked extensively in skilled nursing facilities and as a mobile wound care provider, delivering expert care directly to patients in their homes, assisted living communities, and long-term care settings. She also served in a managerial role at a freestanding wound care and hyperbaric center, balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on clinical practice to remain closely connected to patient care. In addition to treating complex wounds, Dr. Sangster-Scott is deeply committed to education. She regularly teaches families and healthcare staff on evidence-based wound care practices and has formally presented to nursing teams on proper wound management techniques. A lifelong learner, she consistently attends professional conferences and stays current with emerging research in the ever-evolving field of wound care—an area that has seen significant innovation over the course of her career. Dr. Sangster-Scott earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Quinnipiac University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey. Her extensive background in critical care medicine, acute care, and healthcare management continues to inform her comprehensive and patient-centered approach to advanced wound care.
