Encouraged by colleagues who recognized his dedication and talent, Caleb chose to further his education and pursue a career in nursing.

Currently, Caleb is working toward his Registered Nurse degree at Southwestern Community College in Sylva, North Carolina, with an anticipated graduation in May 2026. Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I really ended up loving patient care after I realized how much putting your heart and your care in terms of how you care for the patient, putting that first, makes a real difference in their outcome. I switched over from a sort of technical mindset of healthcare, which was manufacturing in the manufacturing industry, manufacturing dentures, to bedside application. As soon as I sort of realized that that was the difference, that made all the difference - looking at a patient and patient care by the bedside, with compassion. I really got a response from my colleagues as to compliments on my work, and they encouraged me to be a nurse. It's typically challenging, but it's rewarding beyond compare.
