Candice Devlin, BCS-S, CCC-SLP, MS, of Duke Regional Hospital, has more than fifteen years of experience shaping patient care and professional education. A board-certified speech-language pathologist specializing in swallowing and dysphagia management, she is a cornerstone of Duke’s interdisciplinary care teams, providing expertise that bridges clinical precision with compassionate rehabilitation. In her dual role across acute care and inpatient rehabilitation, Devlin evaluates and manages complex swallowing disorders and supports patients with tracheostomies, influencing national standards of practice in swallowing and airway management.

Her academic foundation includes a fellowship at the VA Hospital in Durham, which deepened her clinical insight and fueled her commitment to advancing swallowing science. She maintains active membership in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Board of Swallowing, contributing to ongoing research and best practices in her field. A dedicated educator, Devlin leads continuing education courses on the flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and presents for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her recent publication in the Journal of Respiratory Care underscores her ongoing contributions to research and clinical innovation, while her national workshops have helped clinicians refine tracheostomy management and enhance patient outcomes.

At Duke University Health System, Devlin credits her professional growth to a collaborative environment that encourages interdisciplinary learning and excellence in patient care. She specializes in dementia, transitioning patients from tube to oral feeding, head and neck cancer, neurological disorders, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, tracheostomy management, and dysphagia of uncertain cause. Practicing in acute care, critical care, hospital, ICU, and rehabilitation settings, she remains committed to advancing education, clinical practice, and research in speech-language pathology. Candice Devlin exemplifies modern medical practice—where expertise meets empathy, and every voice, quite literally, finds its way back to being heard.
