Bradley T. Cross, OD

Dr. Bradley T. Cross is a highly experienced optometrist with over 33 years of clinical practice, currently serving patients through Guthrie Medical Group in Elmira, New York. He provides comprehensive eye care with a strong emphasis on managing complex ocular conditions, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and cataracts. Working four 9-hour days per week, Dr. Cross maintains a high-volume, pathology-focused patient base, reflecting both his expertise and dedication to preserving long-term vision health. Affiliated with Guthrie Clinic, he delivers care within a collaborative medical environment designed to support whole-patient outcomes.

Prior to joining Guthrie, Dr. Cross spent 12 years in Alaska operating his own optometry practice, where he practiced with expanded scope privileges that included prescribing medications, performing injectables, and conducting laser treatments. Earlier in his career, he practiced for two decades in Georgia, building a strong clinical foundation across diverse patient populations. His leadership in the field is equally notable—he served as Chair of the Alaska State Board of Optometry from 2019 to 2024 and contributed nationally as a member of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, helping shape professional standards and regulatory practices.

Dr. Cross is a graduate of Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he also served as both a teaching assistant and lab assistant, reflecting his early commitment to education and mentorship. Originally from New York, he returned to the state to be closer to family after years of practicing across the country. Throughout his career, his driving motivation has remained consistent: building meaningful patient relationships and improving quality of life through better vision. His work continues to reflect a deep commitment to both clinical excellence and compassionate care.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I think what drives me is just wanting to have the interaction with patients to improve their life through optimizing their vision and protecting their vision from the forces of aging. That patient interaction and the ability to make a meaningful difference in how people see and experience the world is what keeps me passionate about this work after 33 years.
