Bonnie Kay Wright

MET/Code Registered Nurse
Raleigh General Hospital
Beckley, WV 25801

Bonnie Wright is an experienced critical care and emergency nursing professional currently serving as a Medical Emergency Team (MET) RN at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia. In this role, she responds to rapidly deteriorating patients and hospital-wide emergency situations, including code blues, providing advanced assessment and life-saving interventions. She is recognized for her strong clinical leadership, calm presence in high-acuity events, and ability to coordinate care during critical emergencies while supporting both patients and staff in real time. Throughout her career, Wright has built extensive experience across some of the most respected healthcare systems in the region and beyond, including Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC General), Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, Johns Hopkins Emergency Department, and the University of Kentucky Chandler Division ER. Her background spans Level I trauma emergency care, ICU-level critical care, and travel nursing assignments in high-volume emergency settings. She has also contributed significantly to nursing education, serving as a Clinical Educator and developing structured training programs such as “Educate the Educator,” Hospital Podcasts and Educational videos focused on annual competencies and validation using the Donna Wright evaluation model. In addition to her clinical and educational leadership, Wright is a certified TNCC Course Director and instructor in BLS, ACLS, TNCC and Stop the Bleed, and actively supports staff development through preceptorship with Trumont and new graduate residency programs. She facilitates hands-on education covering basic to advanced essential skills, helping bridge classroom knowledge with bedside practice. She also played a key role in establishing her current MET RN position by collecting and analyzing data to support the need for the role within the hospital system. Her journey into nursing began in 2007 as a caregiver for an elderly couple, an experience that shaped her passion for hands-on, compassionate care. After transitioning from education back to direct patient care, she finds fulfillment in both improving patient outcomes during critical events and mentoring nurses through high-pressure clinical learning moments.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most is teaching staff, seeing improved patient outcomes, and watching nurse’s grow. I want to share the knowledge that I've gathered over the years, especially from my different experiences traveling and working at various facilities. In my current role as a Medical Emergency Team RN, I not only get to see an improvement in patients' care and outcomes, but I also get to teach the staff in the moment - if there's a code blue, I'm teaching the nurses right there in the situation. They know they can ask me questions, and I tell them even if you think it's something silly, ask me the question and we'll figure it out together. It really is a team effort - we learn from one another. But what I enjoy the most is seeing patients improve and nurses learn.
