Binny Khandakar, MD, is a Physician-Scientist and Pathologist with nearly three years of independent practice experience. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, where she is affiliated with Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Her clinical and academic expertise centers on gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and liver pathology, with additional specialization in transplant pathology. In parallel with her clinical responsibilities, she is actively engaged as a cancer research biologist conducting translational and clinical research aimed at improving diagnostic precision and advancing oncologic care.

Dr. Khandakar is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology (AP/CP). She earned her MBBS in India at Medical College, and her medical degree (MD) is conferred by New York State. She completed her residency training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, followed by advanced postgraduate training in the United States at Mount Sinai West (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Yale School of Medicine, where she pursued subspecialty fellowships in oncologic surgical pathology and gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic pathology.

At Zucker School of Medicine, Dr. Khandakar is deeply involved in academic mentorship, particularly guiding medical students in research rather than traditional classroom-based instruction. She is committed to fostering early scientific engagement and cultivating the next generation of physician-scientists. Raised in a family of physicians, she credits her professional development and accomplishments to the strong influence of her upbringing, as well as the guidance and mentorship she has received throughout her medical and academic journey.
