Angela T. Wilson, MSPAS, PA-C

Physician Assistant
Henry Ford Family Medicine - Shelby Township
Shelby Township, MI 48315

Angela T. Wilson is an experienced Physician Assistant who has devoted more than two decades to primary care medicine and patient advocacy. Since becoming a practicing PA in 2002, Angela has built a career centered on compassionate, patient-focused care and long-term relationships with the individuals and families she serves. For the past 11 years, she has worked at Henry Ford Hospital’s Shelby Family Practice in Shelby Township, Michigan, where she provides care to patients ranging in age from just two days old to 96 years old. Her clinical expertise includes cardiology, endocrinology, diabetes education, and cardiovascular management, while also embracing the broad scope and diversity that primary care medicine offers.
What distinguishes Angela most is her deeply patient-centered philosophy. She believes healthcare should be a collaborative effort, taking time to listen carefully to each patient and tailor treatment plans around their individual personalities, lifestyles, and goals. Rather than simply directing care, Angela works alongside patients to empower them in making informed health decisions. Her passion for education extends beyond the exam room, as she enjoys teaching patients about healthy living, exercise, and disease management while also mentoring and precepting future healthcare professionals. Looking ahead, she hopes to eventually teach within university-level Physician Assistant programs and continue sharing her clinical knowledge with the next generation of providers.
Angela’s decision to pursue medicine was inspired by a lifelong desire to help others and strong family values that emphasized compassion and hard work. As the first person in her family to enter the medical field, she chose the PA profession because it allowed her to maintain work-life balance while still practicing as a dedicated clinician. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1994 and completed her Master’s degree at Wayne State University in 2002. A Fellow of both the American Academy for Physician Associates and the Michigan Association for Physician Associates, Angela remains passionate about lifelong learning and professional growth. As she looks toward the future, she envisions transitioning into consulting, university teaching, and specialized diabetic education and insulin pump management while continuing to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

There are so many things that I love about what I do. Working in primary care, I've got 2-day-old patients that come in just after delivery, and my oldest patient is 96, so the variety and the fact that my day is different every day is what I absolutely love. I love the challenges that the patients bring me to help them better their lives, and the gratification that I get when patients come back and I see them happy with where they're at, whether it be improvements in their labs, or weight loss, or just healthier lifestyles. Being able to help people in ways that they didn't think they would be able to help themselves is just super rewarding. I love the patients, I love hearing their stories, and I love just helping them improve their lifestyles. I didn't think I would want to do primary care when I was in school, but I landed a job in an internal medicine office when I first started, and it really did give me that knowledge of being able to understand the whole patient to better help them. I've stuck with it ever since, and I'm one of the few from my graduating class that have actually stayed in the same specialty. I would definitely do it again if I had the opportunity.
