Originally from East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Brissett’s path to medicine was unconventional. While pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at The City College of New York, he joined an emergency response squad on campus and worked as an EMT. These experiences introduced him to the dynamic world of emergency care and sparked his interest in medicine, ultimately guiding him toward a career focused on helping children in urgent and critical care settings.

Dr. Brissett earned his medical degree from American University of Antigua in 2016. He then completed his residency training at John H. Stroger Hospital (Cook County) in Chicago, beginning with family medicine to gain experience in both adult and pediatric care. In 2018, he transitioned fully to pediatrics, completing his pediatric residency in 2021. He further specialized by completing a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Albert Einstein in the Bronx, New York, in 2024, preparing him to lead care for children in high-acuity situations.

During his fellowship, Dr. Brissett engaged in research focusing on oral transmission of gonorrhea and chlamydia, work that has been submitted for publication. His clinical and academic focus is complemented by his commitment to mentorship and education, with a career goal of becoming a program director to strengthen and support residents in their professional development. He is recognized for his hands-on approach, combining clinical expertise with a passion for teaching and patient advocacy.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Brissett enjoys a variety of recreational activities, including skiing, snowboarding, visiting the shooting range, and practicing kickboxing and mixed martial arts. His personal interests reflect his energetic and disciplined approach, traits that carry over into both his medical practice and mentorship roles.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I love most about practicing medicine is the opportunity to bring peace of mind to families when they come into the emergency room. I am especially passionate about working with children, and seeing the relief and trust on families’ faces is the greatest motivation for me in my work.
