Aman Chauhan, MD
Aman Chauhan, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and a faculty member of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India, and completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Louisiana State University. Dr. Chauhan then pursued a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Kentucky, gaining specialized expertise in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and completing a physician externship with the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program focused on early-phase clinical trial design and drug development.
Dr. Chauhan’s clinical and research interests focus on neuroendocrine malignancies, including well-differentiated NETs, high-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas, and small- and large-cell variants. He leads multiple investigator-initiated clinical trials in neuroendocrine oncology and theranostics, advancing the development of radiopharmaceutical therapies, Phase 1 therapeutics, and immuno-oncology approaches. His work emphasizes the translation of scientific innovation into tangible patient benefits, with a patient-centered philosophy that prioritizes quality of life, human connection, and meaningful care.
Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Dr. Chauhan serves on several national committees, including the AJCC and ASCO Neuroendocrine Tumor Guidelines Committee, the NCI Neuroendocrine Tumor Task Force, and the Board of Directors of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS). He also co-chairs the SWOG Neuroendocrine Tumor Subcommittee, providing strategic guidance on clinical trial development and patient care protocols in the field.
Dr. Chauhan is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of clinicians and researchers, integrating his clinical expertise with educational leadership to train fellows, residents, and medical students in advanced oncology care. His commitment to evidence-based practice and translational research ensures that emerging therapies are effectively implemented to benefit patients with rare and complex neuroendocrine malignancies.
Through his combination of academic leadership, clinical excellence, and research innovation, Dr. Chauhan continues to advance the field of neuroendocrine oncology, improving outcomes for patients while contributing to the broader scientific and medical community.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I value most about practicing medicine is the human connection — sitting with patients, listening to their stories, and walking alongside them through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Being entrusted with that journey is both a privilege and a profound responsibility.
Professionally, I am deeply grateful to work within the robust research and drug-development ecosystem in the United States, particularly in the rapidly evolving fields of radiopharmaceuticals and novel therapeutics. The ability to translate scientific discovery into meaningful clinical impact — often in real time — is one of the most inspiring aspects of my career.
At the same time, I remain mindful of the broader global landscape. I recognize the disparities in research infrastructure and access to innovation in many parts of the world, including my home country of India. Pursuing advanced training and cutting-edge research has required personal sacrifices as well — especially time away from family — but those experiences have shaped my perspective, strengthened my purpose, and deepened my commitment to expanding access to progress wherever possible.
