Alfredo Ballesteros, BSN, RN
Alfredo Ballesteros, BSN, RN, is a seasoned nursing and ambulatory care leader with more than 17 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience spanning outpatient clinics, ambulatory care, and hospital operations. Currently serving as Director of Nursing at San Ysidro Health, he provides executive-level oversight of nursing operations across a large, multi-site network throughout San Diego County. In this role, he is responsible for clinical quality, workforce development, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and the advancement of nursing practice standards. Known for his strategic and operational expertise, Alfredo plays a key role in expanding access to care and strengthening delivery systems in diverse and underserved communities.
Throughout his career, Alfredo has demonstrated a strong ability to lead high-performing teams and drive measurable improvements in both patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Prior to his current role, he held multiple leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente over a 20-year tenure, including Medical Office Administrator and Clinical Supervisor. There, he led high-volume primary care operations, managed budgets and staffing models, and partnered with multidisciplinary teams to implement evidence-based workflows focused on chronic disease management, preventive care, and patient safety. His leadership style emphasizes mentorship, accountability, and the development of future nurse leaders, helping to build resilient and engaged clinical teams.
Alfredo’s commitment to healthcare extends beyond operations into education, innovation, and community impact. He has been actively involved in professional development initiatives, public speaking, and clinical education, presenting on topics such as sterilization standardization and quality improvement in ambulatory care. Passionate about equitable access and workforce development, he successfully launched an accelerated Medical Assistant training program in partnership with local educational and workforce organizations, creating opportunities for underserved populations to enter the healthcare field.
