Adriana Grandpre-Aguiar, MSN-Ed., RN, OCN, is an Admin Research Nurse Educator with UCLA Health, where she oversees 10 of the 20 hematology oncology community clinics. Based at UCLA’s flagship clinic at 2020 Santa Monica Boulevard, Adriana works within a high-volume environment serving 80 to 90 patients daily across three infusion centers. In her role, she provides comprehensive nurse education, supports research initiatives, and ensures nursing communication protocols are clear and effective for both research and newly approved oncology medications.

Since beginning her nursing career in 2011, Adriana has dedicated herself exclusively to oncology, progressing from inpatient oncology nursing to radiation oncology and now hematology oncology. Her extensive clinical experience allows her to integrate bedside expertise with administrative oversight, fostering high-quality patient care and staff competency across multiple community clinics.

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Adriana plays a pivotal role in nursing research at UCLA Health. She participates in beacon validations, assists with Epic CareConnect drug builds, and evaluates nursing communication protocols to ensure patients receive accurate and thorough information regarding their treatments. She is often called upon to support research studies and new drug rollouts, bridging the gap between clinical practice and research initiatives.

Adriana also contributes to nursing education as a clinical instructor with West Coast University. She works closely with nursing students, teaching post-conference sessions on topics ranging from interdisciplinary communication and patient safety to disease management, including diabetes, hypertension, and pressure ulcers. Through this teaching, she helps cultivate the next generation of oncology nurses with a strong foundation in both theory and clinical practice.

Adriana’s professional development and educational background include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington (2015) and an RN degree from College of the Canyons (2011). Over the course of her career, she has become known for her dedication to oncology nursing, excellence in staff education, and commitment to improving patient care outcomes through research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

I had the opportunity to publish an article in the October edition of ONF through the Oncology Nursing Society, focusing on subcutaneous injections for oncology medications. My article explored the shift from traditional chemotherapy infusions to subcutaneous injections, analyzing the differences in patient chair time versus education time. I emphasized the critical role nurses play in providing thorough patient education—covering symptom monitoring, when to contact their physicians, and home care management—even when patients are in the clinic for shorter injection appointments rather than longer infusion sessions.
